The Sports Career Guidance Question : What advice would you give to university students or graduates who are literally just starting their sports career journey, especially in sports business?

Matt's reply:  I think my one tip would be ironic we are at mass participation conference and  as they say working in sports is  a marathon, not a sprint. And by that I mean, the question to ask yourself is whether there's a conviction there the that you want a 25 or 30 year career in the sport space. And if that's true, actually what you're doing through the first 10 years of that is is building out your expertise and experience. So to some extent it doesn't really matter where you start, but you need to be conscious and find mentors and people help you to. To get clear, what are the areas of experience I need to fill through the first 10 years? Don't be afraid to take risks and make long term career decisions rather than short and don't be afraid of hard work, but at the same time, realise that it's a marathon, not a sprint.
